For over five years Chuck Chakrapani has written, edited, and published The Stoic. Stoic writers and thinkers from around the world have been featured in the online publication. This month he launched Prokopton, a magazine for Stoic practitioners. Chuck invites the Stoic community to come aboard the new work with daily email lessons and additional emails for guiding Stoic practices. Prokopton describes a person making progress along the way to a happy, fulfilled life.
Quote
“The purpose of prokopton is to walk you through Stoic principles and systematically guide you in your Stoic practice. It is carefully designed to maximize your Stoic learning and Stoic practice.
Let me explain briefly how this is designed:
Each issue of prokopton will contain two essential articles (a Stoic Lesson and a Stoic Exercise). You should read these articles first. These are the cornerstones of your practice for the month.
There will be other articles in the prokopton magazine as well. These are designed to give you a better understanding of less essential aspects of Stoicism. They can be read at your leisure.
Every day, starting from January 1, 2024, you will receive an email which will contain the thought for the day with commentary. Think about it. Meditate on it as time permits. The thought for the day is designed to expose you to the works of Stoic philosophers in an organized way.
The email is also a daily reminder. It will contain reminders of what else you need to do that day.
None of these will demand too much of your time. But you must commit yourself to practicing Stoicism if you want your life to be free and happy.
You don’t need to check your progress. You follow the instructions in the email daily, and the rest will happen by itself.”
Reflection
The modern Stoic movement is growing rapidly with many outstanding scholars, writers and practicing Stoics. Chuck is a major player.
I have been reading The Stoic from The Stoic Gym for several years. A strong point in The Stoic has been the contributions by women and men. The articles take a sensible length of time to read. That is important these days as the amount of information coming from all sources is often overwhelming.
With surprise and joy I learned of Chuck’s new effort centered around Prokopton. The daily coaching (my wife and I have been doing the daily work since January 1) is very focused, centered on ancient Stoic teachings, with a gentle way of moving the prokopton along the way of a Stoic.
