Do you remember the beginning of your awareness and quest for that something beyond yourself, your family, your friends and the world around you? Were you in preschool? Maybe grade school? Adolescence? Adulthood? Ever?
I asked a Mennonite pastor some years back if there were folks in his congregation that went through their days without a thought about God and related things. He shared that there were many.
Some people are just not geared to ask. Others, and I am one, have been burdened with questions about God and the Divine Mystery. And, of course, how do I fit into the Unknown? Many words attempt to name the Unknown. The possibilities can be seen in the quote below from the author of The Last Temptation Of Christ.
We have seen the highest circle of spiraling powers. We have named this circle God. We might have given it any other name we wished: Abyss, Mystery, Absolute Darkness, Absolute Light, Matter, Spirit, Ultimate Hope, Ultimate Despair, Silence. Nikos Kazantzakis
