Before continuing the story of my journey from the early 1980s in Indiana and Mennonite Church membership to the present, I want to go back to the last week’s post, Return to the Land of Goshen. John Rempel and I became friends in 1966 while he attended the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary and I was at Goshen College on the same campus. We have shared many experiences and carry on our friendship to this day. We have talked faith, life and hopes over the 57 years. John was on my mind while writing the last post and I shared with him that it was coming. He responded in a loving, a caring way -- he has no other way. As I read his response I thought, “yes”, this is what I had hoped for in this strand of Substacks. Only a few of you receive these posts due to your gracious “paid” support. I count on you all to be open and honest, to be challenging and affirming, to be clarifying and caring. Thanks, John, for getting right to it and even recalling conversations.
